Create a shortcut for locking your computer screen
We are often working on tasks or projects that are in some way confidential, even from others in the office. How often do we jump up from our desks to go to the copier, have a word with a colleague or simply to make a coffee, leaving our work on our screens for all to see?
The simplest way to lock your computer screen is to press the Win + L keys simultaneously. However, some people prefer to use the mouse to lock the workstation.
Here’s how to easily create a shortcut to lock Windows 7, Vista and Windows XP.
Right-click on your desktop, wherever you want to create the shortcut, choose “New”, and then “Shortcut”. Enter the following text into the shortcut textbox: rundll32.exe user32.dll, LockWorkStation .
Enter a name for the new shortcut, for example “Lock Me”, and then click Finish.
In an earlier Tech Tip we talked about protecting your Passwords, try to remember to also protect your work in progress, open emails and spread sheets when you have to leave your desk – even for a minute
