Microsoft Authenticator Set Up.

Please follow this Guide to set up the Microsoft Authenticator App. Please follow this guide carefully as it sometimes differs from what the web pages tell you to do!

Instructions in Blue are completed on your Computer.

Instructions in Orange are completed on your Mobile Phone

Go to https://portal.office.com using a web browser (google Chrome) on your computer

Enter your email address and click Next:

Enter your password and click Sign In:

You can choose to set up Multi factor authentication now, or later for up to 14 days. Click Ask Later to ignore for now, or Next to set it up:

When you see this screen, we need to swap to your mobile phone to do a little set up there.

Open the camera app on your phone and point it at the QR code for your device type, Android or iPhone below. Alternatively, you can get a link to the app from here: https://www.microsoft.com/en-gb/security/mobile-authenticator-app

Tap the highlighted code to open the App / Play Store

Download, install and open the Microsoft Authenticator App:

Once the app opens, click Accept:

Click Continue:

Click Scan a QR Code:

Allow Access to the Camera if prompted:

Now, back on your computer, click next.

This will show you the QR code we need to scan with the mobile phone app:

Scan the QR code with the mobile phone app, and choose Allow if prompted for notifications:

You should then be prompted to enter a number shown on your computer into the app on your mobile phone, enter the number and click Yes:

As a backup the System will now set up text message authentication in case you need to access your account without a mobile data connection, press Next to start:

 

Choose UK from the list and enter your phone number without the first 0

You will receive a Text message on your phone, Enter the number in the box on the screen:

Congratulations You have completed the set up of the App. Click Done:

You will be sent your first sign in authorisation to test it is working, enter the number in the Mobile phone app to confirm:

Sign in complete:

You will be presented with a number to enter into the app on your mobile phone whenever you sign in to Microsoft in a web browser or set up your email for the first time in Outlook on a new PC or Mobile Phone.
